Text introduces each decade, describing the events of the time: the Great Depression, World War II, the Space Race, etc., and the personal events of the Blake family. In the early years William and Elizabeth's daughter "Bettina" was included in the family card, bit by bit making her contributions until she began issuing cards of her own verse and design.
