Civic monument

Detail of a marble tablet quoting Vermont born President Calvin Coolidge's extemporaneous remarks while touring Vermont by train following the devastating flood of 1927. In this speech he referred to the "brave little state of Vermont" a term that resonated with Vermonters.

A large initial capital signals the beginning of the quotation; widely spaced small capitals provide a lead-in to the text.
