Vermont State House Hall of Inscriptions

Monumental typography and inscription

At the Vermont State House, Hood Design designed a series of eight 6' × 3' marble tablets bearing historic quotes on the nature of Vermont's social and political ideals. The quotes first appeared in 1945 in painted form on interior walls of the 1833-1859 building. The building's curator sought to replace the painted inscriptions with an architectural and typographic form more in keeping with the building's 1859 completion date.
