Vermont State House Hall of Inscriptions

Hall of Inscriptions civic memorial

The Hall of Inscriptions, a ground floor passage, was once hung with photographs of Vermont's Civil War military leaders. In 1945 Governor Mortimer Proctor conceived of the space as a place for civic reflection using historic inscriptions about Vermont ideals. The inscriptions were initially painted. A building-wide restoration sought to retain the quotes but present them in a manner consistent with the building's architecture.
